Speech I: "The N of 1 Gene Editing is Here: Lessons on Technology Readiness for Scale Up"

Eric Huang, PhD, is an Operating Partner of Delos Capital. Prior to Delos, Dr. Huang held various leadership roles at Moderna Therapeutics, including as founding CSO of Moderna’s New Venture Labs, an industry-leading effort to explore novel applications of mRNA technology across immunology, neurology, tissue repair & regeneration, and cancer. In this role, he conceived of Moderna’s mRNA vaccine platform, which later led to the development of the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Huang was recognized for this work with the prestigious Warren Alpert Foundation Prize. Additionally, he oversaw the invention of Moderna’s personalized cancer vaccine, now in late-stage clinical development with Merck, and the company’s first autoimmune program from inception through IND. Most recently, Dr. Huang served as General Manager and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at Moderna Genomics. Furthermore, Dr. Huang's earlier career included roles of increasing responsibility in corporate and business development at venture-backed biotechnology companies, including Seaside Therapeutics, Stromedix, and Domantis.

Speech II: Emerging Biotech Trends with Dynamic Landscape

Dr. John Tsai is currently an Executive Partner at Syncona, a London-based venture capital firm, where he plays a key role in evaluating new investments and supporting biotech portfolio companies through his extensive global experience in drug development. He also holds leadership roles across Syncona's portfolio, including CEO of Forcefield Therapeutics (cardiovascular disease), Chairperson of Purespring Therapeutics (kidney disease), and CMO of Mosaic Therapeutics (oncology). In addition, he serves as a non-executive director at Blueprint Medicines and Spur Therapeutics, focusing on precision oncology and gene therapies for neurological diseases, respectively. Before joining Syncona, Dr. Tsai was President of Global Drug Development and Chief Medical Officer at Novartis, where he oversaw over 160 projects and 500 clinical trials, leading to the approval of 15 innovative therapies, including gene and cell therapies. He previously held senior leadership positions at Amgen and spent over a decade at Bristol-Myers Squibb, contributing to medical and drug development strategies. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Tsai is a prominent figure in global biopharmaceutical R&D, known for advancing transformative therapies across multiple therapeutic areas.
